ALICE HARPER (nee RUTHERFORD) 1922 - 2003 Peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer, our loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on January 22, 2003 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, MB. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother John. Alice will be deeply missed by her husband Owen; and her children, Shannon (Peter) Smarz, Griffin (Edith), Shaun (Arlene), and Tammy (Robert) King. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as many friends from her homes in Winnipeg, Stonewall and Gimli. Alice was educated in Winnipeg at Lord Roberts School and St. Marys Academy. She loved to travel with her beloved husband especially to France, England, Ireland and British Columbia and enjoyed many family camping outings. For 18 years Alice had wintered in Arizona and Texas. Alice will be remembered by all who knew her for her wonderful sense of humour and her willingness to help a worthy cause. She was the past president of Gimli Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and was instrumental in the revitalization of Camp Morton Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the staff and Gimli and Grace Hospitals and the many caregivers for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or to the CNIB, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 9Z9. Memorial service will be held on Monday, January 27 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow.
