JOAN ROBERTSON (nee Fetherstonhaugh) Peacefully after a debilitating stroke, Joan passed away at the Grace General Hospital on Friday, January 17, 2003, at the age of 83 years. Joan, "Mom", "Grannie" and "Great-Grannie" will be sadly missed by Laurie, her loving husband of 56 years; five children, Penny Flock, Dale Hunt (Brian), Ted (Pat), Allan, Jayne Sims (Reg), and step-daughter Heather Grams (Art) grandchildren, Darcie, Corrie (Michael), Ainslie, Daven, Julie, Joel, Carolyn, Colleen, Kelly, Lyndsey, Jayde, Jodie, Artara and Shane; as well as 12 great-grandchildren! Her brother, Derek (Helen) and many nieces and nephews will also miss her. She was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Cuthbert, and one brother Brian. She was born in Australia and came to Winnipeg with her mother and two brothers in 1930 after her fathers death. She worked for the Royal Canadian Navy in Ottawa during the war and often spoke of her time there with fondness. Joan and Laurie married in Winnipeg in 1946 and raised five children. Joan was a bit of a sportswoman; she golfed, played badminton and even bowled until she was 80 years old! She was an avid seamstress, making all the clothes for her children for many, many years. She was also a very active member of St. Cuthberts Church Womens Auxiliary and the ensuing "Come Double Club." Joan and Laurie loved to dance and they went out dancing most Saturday nights at Minto Armoury. She was a great animal lover, she never turned an animal away. Her home always had lots of pets of all kinds and this love for animals was passed on to all her children. In compliance with Moms wishes, a private family service has been held. Special thanks to Dr. B. Roussin for his compassion and kindness and to the nursing staff of 5N of the Grace General Hospital for their gentle care. In lieu of flowers, Joan would have liked a donation made in her name to either the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1X3 or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2.
