DEREK SMITH January 12, 1931 - January 20, 2003 Beloved husband, father, grandfather died peacefully, with family by his side, at the age of 72. Derek is survived by his wife Leda; sons, Gordon, Colin (Sheila), and Warren (Pam) grandson Kyle; brother Richard; loving nieces and nephews; and dear friends. Derek was born in England in 1931. He moved to Canada in 1949 and married Leda, his wife of 48 years, in 1955. They lived in Winnipeg for 30 years where they raised their family and enjoyed many personal and professional successes. In 1983, Derek and Leda left behind many friends and fond memories to move to Victoria, BC. Derek touched many lives and will be remembered for his sense of humour, his willingness to help friends, and, first and foremost, his love for his family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 31, at 2:00 p.m., at First Memorial Funeral Home, 1155 Fort St., Victoria, BC V8V 3K9. For those who wish, donations may be made on Dereks behalf to the Palliative Care Unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, 2166 Mt. Newton X Rd., Saanichton, BC V8M 2B2.
