MICHAEL (MIKE) DROZD It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, brother, and uncle, Mike Drozd, on January 25, 2003, at the Riverview Health Centre. Left to mourn are his loving wife Phyllis; his brothers, Stanley (Bernice) and Joe; his sisters, Theresa Pelletier, Mary Dushenko, Sophie Payne, Nellie Willie (Cliff), and Millie Kreuz (John) his brothers-in-law, Alex Peters, and Sam Smilski (Guyla) as well as his nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his mother Anna, his father John, and recently, his sister-in-law Elsie Peters. Mike was born on the family farm in Fannystelle, MB on September 29, 1929. After completing his education at the local school, he farmed in the Fannystelle area until his retirement. He married Phyllis Smilski in 1969 and they lived in Winnipeg, where they enjoyed close ties with family and friends in the city. Mike was a man of great faith and was a long-time parishioner at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed his memberships with the Canadian Polish Athletic Club, as well as the CPAC Seniors Club and the West Kildonan Horticultural Society. His warmth and friendliness will be remembered by his family and friends, who will miss him deeply. The family would like to express its thanks to Dr. Rubinger and to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and the Riverview Health Centre for their dedicated, professional, and compassionate care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., with an Oblate Father officiating.
