Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKIKUE (BETTY) SHIBATA It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Kikue (Betty) Shibata, loving wife, mother, and grandmother (Bachie), on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at St. Boniface Hospital after a short, courageous battle with cancer, with her family at her side. Kikue leaves to mourn, her husband Takanori, of 49 years; her children, Doug, Gary (Karen), Karen (Tom) and Sandra; brother Harry Sekiya (Fumi) as well as her many nieces and nephews. She will also be forever remembered by her seven grand-children, Jerad, Kara, Jessica, Michael, Mark, Matthew and Steven. Born in Woodfibre, BC on September 5, 1926, Kikue lived in BC, Japan and relocated to Alberta before moving to Winnipeg in 1953 when she married Takanori. Kikue dedicated her life to the people closest to her, her family. Kikues greatest pleasures in life centered around her children and grandchildren and provided her family with many wonderful memories of her love and never ending support. Kikues extended family of Naomi and Zel, Atsumi & Tets, Terumi & Ron, Shigeko & Koji, Sachiko & Ken, Yoriko & Roy, Elsie & Ty as well as Mrs. Hisanaga and Mrs. Tsutsumi, whom she considered her second mothers, brought her much joy and comfort and she was proud to consider them part of her family. Kikue was an active member of the Hoyukai Seniors Club at the Manitoba Buddhist Church and looked forward to the weekly outings to be with her friends. Kikue enjoyed her many trips to the Casino and Las Vegas with her gambling buddies. In her later years she also enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower garden, cooking her favorite foods for dinner parties, making the many beautiful crafts she made for her family and friends as well as spending time at the cottage with her family. We would like to thank the many family and friends who supported us during this very difficult time. Special thanks go to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, 5B ward, who made her final days comfortable. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30 at the Manitoba Buddhist Church, 825 Winnipeg Ave., with Sensei Ulrich officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kikues memory may be made to the Hoyukai Seniors Club at the Manitoba Buddhist Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
