DONALD CLYDE SMALL Beloved husband of Bernice Small passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on January 29, 2003. Survived by daughter Margaret Ann Miller (Bob) and son Dr. Rod Small (Pat) granddaughters, Dr. Deborah Miller and Sami Jo Small; grandsons, Robert Miller (Alice) and Dr. Luke Small (Gina) great-grand-daughters, Sophia and Claire Miller. Predeceased by his parents, Mildred and Walter Small; and sister Marguerite Tapp (Grenville). Don was born in Lansing, MI August 20, 1911, graduated from Fort William Collegiate and attended Michigan State University. He graduated as an Optometrist from the College of Ontario in Toronto in 1937. In 1957 he received the degree of Doctor of Optometry from the University of Toronto. He was very active in many areas: Past President of the Manitoba Optometric Association; Past President of the Red River "Ex", Past President of the Winnipeg Kinsmen Club and many more. He was a life member of Northern Light Masonic Lodge, life member of Scottish Rite and life member of the Directors staff of the Shrine Khartum Temple. A long-time active member of St. Andrews River Heights United Church serving as an Elder for many years, he had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord and lived his life with grace and dignity. Don loved curling, fishing, bridge and gardening. Don and Bernice were married July 8, 1939. They spent many years travelling in U.S.A., Canada, Europe and had 18 happy winters in Hawaii. Don adored his family and all his nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Monday, February 3 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. After the service, a reception for family and friends will be held at "The Wellington", 3161 Grant Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews River Heights United Church "Foundation", 255 Oak St., Winnipeg, MB R3M 3P7 or a charity of ones choice.
