HERBERT (BERT) MAY February 11, 1938 - January 29, 2003 Peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, Bert passed away at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by his family. He will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his loving family, his wife of 42 years, Linda; his daughter Janet LaFleche, son-in-law Mike and his grandson Matthew; his son David, daughter-in-law Bernice and his grandchildren, Scott and Marissa. Bert is also survived by his sister Maryanne Henderson; sister-in-law Vivian May; brother-in-law Gordon Law (Donna) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Jim and Bud. Bert was so very proud of his kids and grandchildren and loved every minute he spent with them. Most of his working life was spent in the employ of Manitoba Pool Elevators, retiring several years ago. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. In the summer he could be seen floating around the pool on his air mattress or tending his tomato patch. He took great pleasure if he could pick a ripe tomato before his son-in-law Mike. Bert enjoyed all sports but his first love was hockey, especially international hockey championships. The past year had been a difficult struggle for Bert but he met the challenge with courage, stubbornness and a sense of humour. The family would like to thank Berts neighbours, Rheal and Leah Dupuis as well as his good friend Barry De Jaeger for everything they did for Bert over the past year. Special thanks to Dr. A. McGowan, Dr. A. Maksymiuk and Dr. Paul Daeninck for their care and kindness as well as the staff of the Palliative Care Ward at St. Boniface Hospital. As per Berts wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Friends wishing to pay their respects may stop by Janet and Mikes home at 57 Heather Rd., on Monday, February 3 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. We love you. Rest in Peace The Coutu family in care of arrangements: EDWARD J.
