ORYSIA (BUTTON) McKECHNIE (nee CHAYKOWSKI) Orysia (Button) McKechnie passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Monday, January 20, 2003 at the Dauphin Regional Health Center at the age of 60 years. Button was born at Dauphin, MB on December 15, 1942, daughter of Fred and Anne Chaykowski (nee Burtniak). She received her education at Dauphin. Following her education she was employed with M. T .S. as a telephone operator until her retirement. On May 20, 1967 at Dauphin she was united in marriage to Walter McKechnie. In 1971 she and Walter moved to Kelowna, BC, returning to Selkirk, MB in 1976. In 1979 they moved to Thompson, MB where they resided for 10 years. They moved to Dauphin in 1989 where she since resided. Button enjoyed fishing and camping at Wekusko Falls, bowling (10 pin mixed), curling in bonspiels, reading, classical singing and socializing with family and friends. Her greatest joy were times spent with her new grandson. She was predeceased by her father Fred and niece Michelle Klock. Surviving besides her husband Wally of Dauphin is one daughter Andrea and husband Sean Hallett of LaRonge, SK. Grandson Liam Hallett, her mother Anne Chaykowski of Thunder Bay, ON. Two sisters, Adeline and husband Elmer Klock of Thunder Bay, and Sylvia Pawlik of Winnipeg; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins. Funeral service was held on Friday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel. Rev. Ellen Wood officiated and interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation. Please hold her in your arms Dear Lord And treasure her with care Make up for all she had to bear. Please whisper in her ear Dear Lord In case she didnt hear How much we truly love her And wish she was still here. She could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work and play Tasks left undone must stay that way. Perhaps her time with us seemed all too brief Lets not lengthen it with undue grief Her lifes been full.... She has savoured much Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch God took her hand, she heard Him call, She turned and bid farewell to all.
