RUTH ALEXANDRA MUIRHEAD It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ruth Alexandra Muirhead on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the age of 83. Funeral service will be held at the MacGregor United Church, MacGregor, MB on Monday, February 3 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Quentin Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Ruth was born on November 15, 1919 in Gladstone, MB. Her family moved to Rivers, MB in 1926 and finally settled in MacGregor, MB in 1935 where she resided for the rest of her life. She worked at the post office as Assistant Postmaster from 1949 to 1984, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service. Not one to sit idly back in retirement, she volunteered at the MacGregor Elementary School until her health prevented her from continuing. Ruth was a caring and true friend. In her younger years she was an avid curler. She loved hockey (who could forget the cowbell at the local minor hockey games). Ruth also served as superintendent of the Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and sat on the Board of the United Church and the local Chamber of Commerce. She leaves to mourn her passing, her sisters Grace Magdalin of Saskatoon, Charlotte Ballance (Bill) of Cumberland, BC, her brother Tom Muirhead (Lorraine) of Winnipeg and sister-in-law June Muirhead of Edmonton. She also leaves her nieces and nephews Greg, Ron, Pat and Peter Ballance, Gerry (Reg) Steers, Sky Magdalin, Betty (Barry) Hamre, Sandra (Stan) Lazar, Jeff (Sharon) Muirhead, and Teresa Muirhead. Numerous great-nieces and nephews will also lovingly remember her. Her parents David (Sandy) and Martha Muirhead, her brother Edward, niece Denyce and nephew Russell, predeceased her. At Ruths request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the MacGregor United Church on Monday, February 3 at 1:30 p.m. A reception to reminisce about Ruth and to celebrate her life will follow at the MacGregor Memorial Hall. A private family interment will follow the reception in Portage la Prairie. The family would like to thank all those who have looked in on Ruth and were there for her when she needed them. In particular, we would like to thank her friend Margaret Jonasson who will also dearly miss her. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Catherine Newham - Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Cr., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7 or the charity of ones choice. "Your memory is our keepsake, with which well never part, God has you in His keeping, we have you in our hearts." Funeral arrangements in care of the Omega Funeral Home.
