Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHEILA CHAWLA October 7, 1917 - January 31, 2003 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Sheila Chawla on January 31, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband, Bhagwan Singh Chawla; brothers, Sohan Singh and Inder Singh and sister Brij Kumari. Sheila is survived by her children, Pritpal (Surinder) Chawla, Manjit (Jagjit) Bajaj, Arjinder (Pat) Chawla and six grandchildren, Seema, Jaspal, Amrita, Puneet, Sean and Tara and also sisters-in-law, Swaraj Chawla and Balwant Kumari as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, United States and India. Sheila was born in Quetta, (now in Pakistan) on October 7, 1917. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Education degree. Sheila was married at the age of 22 in Lahore, India. She lived in Amritsar (Khasa) from 1947 to 1965 where she enjoyed raising her children and working as the Principal at Khasa High School. From 1965 to 1975 the family lived in Meerut, India, during which time her daughter and two sons moved to Canada. Sheila and Bhagwan retired to Chandigarh, India in 1975. Following the death of her husband of 50 years in 1990, Sheila moved to Canada in 1992 to be closer to her children. Sheila had a passion for music, art as well as sports. She was an accomplished violinist and harmoniam player. Sheila was the Punjab State mixed badminton champion. She also enjoyed basketball, field hockey and tennis in her younger years. Her love of sports continued through her children, grandchildren and even extended to following the career of Tiger Woods. She was an active member of the cultural society of Amritsar, and the Lions Club in Meerut. She served on many committees organizing cultural and social events. Sheila possessed a great inner strength through her spirituality and a belief of all that is good. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 4 at 3 p.m., in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Dearest Mom: You are with the sun and the stars now As always your loving and caring hand will be felt by us all Your love and joy for simple and finer things in life along with your spirituality will never be forgotten Your love will always be in our hearts. The family would like to thank all her good friends and staff at the Rotary Villa for their companionship and support and special thanks to her long dear friend, Freda Hewlett.
