WILLIAM (BILL) GEORGE McCOY January 28, 1937 - February 1, 2003 Bill left this life peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family on February 1, 2003. He was diagnosed with cancer in June 2002. Bill will be lovingly missed forever by his family, wife Florence; children Glenn (Denise) of Vancouver, BC, Colleen (Lee) Hopfner, Maureen (David) Mateush, and Mark all of Winnipeg; sister Maureen Daugherty and niece Diane Malone of Pickerington, OH, as well as numerous cousins in Canada and Ireland. Bill grew up and received his education in East Kildonan where he attended Miles Macdonell Collegiate. Afterwards, he acquired his mechanics license at Musker Engineering. Having an entrepreneurial heart, Bill owned and operated several businesses during his life including B.A. Service Station and Perimeter Towing. He joined Canadian National Railway in 1963, retiring as Automotive Fleet Supervisor, Prairie Region in 1993. Dad loved his family and his home. Wanting his family to grow up in a rural environment, he and Florence moved to Lilyfield in 1971. With his talents, he did much of the work on the family home and built the family cottage and floating dock at Eleanor Lake. He had a lifelong love of steam locomotives and an appreciation of fine automobiles. He restored several vintage cars including his 59 Chev Impala. Bill also built a few boats as well. Dad enjoyed many great times at Grand Beach throughout his life and often reminisced about "the good old days" he had there with his sister Maureen and numerous friends. Dad was also a skilled hockey player, starting at Bronx Park and in later years, organizing the Stony Mountain Oldtimers Hockey Team as well as coaching. In his retirement years, Bill was always busy with projects at home and at the cottage. He enjoyed going out to eat with his friends and "playing a few coins" at the Casino. We thank all our family, friends, and coworkers, Minister Deborah Vitt, Dr. Pat Harris, and the staff of Concordia Oncology Clinic for their concern, help, and support. Special thanks to the late Robert Vryenhoek, Dave Holowaty, Peter Slimmen, Joe and Sonia Hunnie, Dan Robinson, and Jim Hutcheson (Toronto) for their unending love and support. A celebration of Bills life will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment and reception to follow, also at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. If friends wish, contributions can be made in Bills memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7 or a charity of ones choice. We love and miss you - Until we meet again. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL CHAPEL 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
