Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH AIKENS SCHAFER Ruth Aikens Schafer peacefully died on Friday, January 31, 2003, at St. Vincents Hospital, Vancouver, BC. Ruth was the eldest daughter of Sadie (Ferguson) Schafer and Roy E. Schafer. Ruth was predeceased by her sister Marjorie (Schafer) Stewart of Winnipeg, May 22, 2002. Ruth is survived by her sister Jean (Schafer) Gillispie; her nieces, Kelly, Kerry; and nephew Timothy, all of Calgary. Ruth is also survived by her nephew Howard Stewart of Yellowknife, NT, her nephew Gordon (and Audrey) Stewart of Winnipeg; and her niece Jan (Stewart) Bones (and George) and her great-nephews, Derek Bones and Kevin Bones, all of Winnipeg. Ruth was born in Winnipeg, July 31, 1920. Ruth and family lived at 120 Garfield St., Winnipeg, and in 1943, the Schafer family moved to Vancouver. With business school training, Ruth secured a job at Dairyland where she was a faithful employee for over 40 years. She worked hard and had a diligent work ethic. Sincere thanks to all Ruths dear friends who generously gave an extra measure of their love and support during the past few months. She truly appreciated all of you. The staff at St. Vincents Hospital showed care, compassion and kindness while caring for Ruth. Thank you. A celebration of Ruths life will be held at Knox United Church, 5600 Balaclava, Vancouver, BC V6N 1L1, on Tuesday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Edith Baird officiating.
