Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR (ANIELA) TARASKA (nee KALINSKI) With great sadness the family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Eleanor Taraska on Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 88 years. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her three children, Vincent Taraska (and Lorraine), Stanley Taraska (and Elizabeth) and Gloria Pritchett (and Gary) her grandchildren, Karen Taraska-Alcock (and Reg Alcock), Kathy Berke (and Paul), Victoria Taraska (and Harry Blackwood), Valerie Taraska, Elisa Morrison (and Paul), Lauren Freed, Nicholas Taraska, and Paul Taraska; and, her many great-grandchildren. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Judge Peter Taraska. Eleanor was born on August 13, 1914 in Winnipeg, and grew up in North Winnipeg, attending St. Johns High School. She married Peter on September 4, 1937. Eleanor was active in politics, supporting her husband in federal and civic election campaigns, and was President of the Womens Liberal Association. She also was instrumental in forming the first Catholic Womens League at St. Johns Cantius, was extremely involved at both Holy Ghost and St. John Brebeuf Churches, the Winnipeg Winter Club, and volunteered many hours for numerous charities. She was a very active and outgoing woman, who enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, dancing, knitting and painting well into her early 80s, and her favourite pastime was visiting with her friends at the Assiniboine Downs. Our family wishes to thank the staff of 5A South at the St. Boniface Hospital and her friends for their concern, help and support. Special thanks to her lifelong friend Olga Robbie and her dear friend Margaret White. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl. (at Renfrew Street off Grant Avenue), with Rev. Fr. Michael Koryluk presiding. For those who wish, viewing will be held one hour prior to mass in church. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Our family wishes to thank the staff of 5A South at the St. Boniface Hospital and her friends for their concern, help and support. Special thanks to her lifelong friend Olga Robbie and her dear friend Margaret White. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peter Taraska Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Pauls College, University of Manitoba.
