SGT. JOHN C. F. SMITH It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of John Smith on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at the Grace Hospital. John was predeceased by his loving grandmother, Violet Raymond. Left to cherish Johns memory are his loving wife Margaret; sons, Tristan (18), and Cameron (9) his parents, Murray and Sheila Smith; his sister Anne (Robert) Way; two brothers, David and Ian; as well as many caring and loving friends. John will always be remembered for his passionate and outgoing nature, always more concerned about the well being of others rather than his own. His two great passions were flying and soccer, where he made many great friends who will always remain dear to him. John worked for the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years, spending the last 16 years as a flight engineer with search and rescue and transport, and with his last posting being in Winnipeg working with the 435 Squadron on the C-130 Hercules. His fondest memories will always be working with the 442 Buffalo Squadron in Comox, BC. John courageously fought his battle with cancer, not letting it deter him from living a full life, with his loving family by his side. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Harris, Laurie Read and the Oncology nurses who came along side and eased the pain of this difficult journey. To the nurses at the St. Boniface General Hospital Palliative Care Ward, and to the nurses on the fourth floor at the Grace Hospital, thank you so much for your care and understanding in letting us play an active part in Johns care. To the Kraljevic and Furlotte families, you have carried us through your loving friendship by helping us to endure. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grace Palliative Hospice, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. A memorial service celebrating Johns life will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edward J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: EDWARD J. COUTU LTD. 680 ARCHIBALD STREET 253-5086
