JANICE (JAN) ELIZABETH ANNE CARSON (nee ORTON) June 17, 1950 - February 5, 2003 Peacefully, after a brief illness, with family at her side, Jan passed away on February 5, 2003 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 52 years. Jan is lovingly remembered by her mother Betty Orton; sister Marilyn McCorrister; nephews, Kevin (fiancee Kirsten Earl), Andrew (Michelle Saunders), Stuart and Robert McCorrister; as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father Leonard Orton in May 2002. Jan was born and raised in the St. James area. She attended Strathmillan, Birchwood, Golden Gate and Silver Heights schools and then Red River Community College. Over the years she worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Winnipeg, Dryden and Vancouver, Smed Manufacturing in Calgary, Nygaard and City Sheet Metal in Winnipeg, and Smidke Millworks and Penner International Inc. (her present employer) in Steinbach. Jan loved her job as a dispatcher and took great pride in her work. Jan will be remembered for her great sense of humour and her love of life. Our family wants to thank the wonderful staff at Grace General Hospital, 4 West Palliative Care for the loving care and compassion given to Jan. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army Grace Hospice, a palliative care hospice, currently under construction. Cheques should be made payable to the Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Jans life will be held at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St., Winnipeg, on Saturday, February 8, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
