THALIA MERCURY (nee GIAKOUMIS) Formerly of the City of Winnipeg, died in Athens, Greece on December 31, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her son Nicholas of Winnipeg, twin sister Litsa Anghelis (Basil) and nephew Michael of Poughkeepsie, NY. Thalia was born in Athens, Greece on December 5, 1933 and immigrated to Canada in 1960. She resided in Winnipeg from 1960 to 1983 when she ultimately returned to Greece. A memorial service in honour of her memory will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2003 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. in Winnipeg at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.
