ALMA LIZZIE HILLHOUSE (AIKMAN) December 15, 1915 - January 18, 2003 Alma L. Hillhouse, widow of Jack Hillhouse, passed away in Winnipeg on January 18, 2003. She leaves to cherish her memory, sister Jean E. Charlesworth of Heritage Lodge, Winnipeg; niece Valerie McLeod of British Columbia; and also two nieces of her husband, Mrs. Marilyn Armitage of Victoria, and Mrs. Enid Hankinson of Vancouver. Alma was predeceased by her husband Jack; her parents, George and Jessie Aikman; and by her brother Gordon; and sister Mary. In 1937, following her schooling at Lord Selkirk and St. Johns Technical, she entered the Winnipeg General Hospital to train as a nurse, graduating in 1941. After completing her training, Alma provided care for some time to her mother following a car accident. After her mothers death, she returned to the Winnipeg General first performing general duty, then subsequently acting as Head Nurse on C flat, and later transferring to the Nursing Office. Alma was Director of Nursing Service when she left her employment to be married on October 14, 1959. Jack and Alma had 38 happy years together. Alma was active as a Nursing Alumnae, receiving an honorary life membership. She was also very involved in many sporting activities. She bowled with the Wednesday St. James Ladies league, and with the Winnipeg General Hospital leagues as well. She was also active in tennis, and enjoyed golf at the Assiniboine Club. Alma was also a very involved member of the Deer Lodge United Church, Unit 10. In accordance with her wishes, Alma was cremated and there was no formal service. However, the will be a gathering to celebrate Almas life on Tuesday, February 11, at 1:30 p.m. at the Westhaven Apartments, 3033 Portage Ave.
