SHIRLEY JOYCE WALKER Passed away on February 7, 2003 at Jocelyn House. She was predeceased by her parents, Oliver Walker, June 22, 1956 and Daisy Walker, November 11, 1999. Shirley was born on July 11, 1927 in East Kildonan. She received her education at Prince Edward Elementary School and East Kildonan Collegiate. In 1946 she received her teaching diploma. She commenced teaching in September 1946, at Prince Edward Elementary School and later at Donwood Elementary School retiring from there in June 1982. She thoroughly enjoyed her teaching career - it was the love of her life. She was a member of St. Stephens Anglican Church as well as a member of the Retired Women Teachers. She also belonged to the Good Neighbours Senior Club. She had many interests but gardening topped the list. She is survived by her cousins, Gladys Dight and Wayne Piper (Kitty) of Winnipeg, Phyllis Fox, Marilyn Piper, Pat Dyck (Jake) all of British Columbia, Sydney Walker (Helen), Isabel Ritenburg (Lorne) of Saskatchewan, Olive Smith of Thunder Bay; in the USA, cousins, Joyce Nelson, Kitty Sterling, Tom Walker (Bea) and Peggy Compton (Bud). She was blessed with many thoughtful and kind friends who have helped her in so many ways during recent difficult times, Ada Allen, Eileen Fowler, Joyce and Stan Joyce, June and Brian Croxford, Kay Buttasey, Jean and Frank Stobbe, Pat Symko and Ruth Hodgins, her church family and especially Rev. Donna Mahussier. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave., with Rev. Fletcher Stewart officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or any charity of their choice in memory of Shirley. Thank you for caring.
