DAVID ARTHUR ART KINNEY 1915-2003 David Arthur "Art" Kinney died peacefully and with dignity at his beloved Russell, MB on February 8, 2003. He is survived by his cherished wife of 61 years, Marie (Foster) by son Brent (Elaine) of Dubai, UAE; daughter Diane (Matt Bray) of Sudbury; daughter Colleen (Luc Maltais) of Ottawa; and by Gordon Hunter (Shelley) of Grand Prairie. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Meghan Kinney (Martin Gooding) of New York, NY, and David Kinney of Tokyo; by Krista Bray Jenkyn (Tom Jenkyn) of London, Ontario, and Kaelen Bray (David Jones) of Kingston; and by Jevin and Adam Maltais of Ottawa. Son of John and Clara Kinney (predeceased) of Brookdale, MB, Art is also survived by sister Blanche of Neepawa and brother Cliff of Indian Head. Art arrived in Russell in 1940 as the Ag. Rep for the Russell district and married Marie Foster in 1941. His entrepreneurial spirit early came to the fore when Kinney Hatcheries were established in 1945 and run successfully until their sale in 1958. Subsequently his business interests revolved around Glu-Rite Industries and helping Marie with the Fashion Shoppe. During the 63 years Art lived in Russell he was intensely involved in his community and the happiest years of life were from 1975 to 1980 when he served Russell as mayor. One particularly proud moment in Arts life was his receipt of the Province of Manitobas Citizen of the Year award in 1984, presented by the Lieutenant Governor. The funeral service was held Thursday, February 13, 2003 from the Russell District Community Centre, Russell, MB with Rev. Deborah Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Russell Memorial Gardens. The family, Marie, Brent, Diane and Colleen, wish to express heartfelt thanks to all those who expressed their sympathies and gave their blessings during this time of bereavment.
