CHARLES GEORGE CHAPMAN Passed away peacefully on February 8, 2003 at Rock Lake Hospital with his family at his side. Charles was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1918. He came to Canada as a young boy with his Dad, Mother, brother Bill and sister Betty. After arriving in Canada they came to the Crystal City - Clearwater area where Charles attended school. Later on they moved to the Purves area where they purchased their farm. Charles farmed together with his Dad and Mother. After the passing of his Dad, Charles continued farming. He was active in the Purves community where he enjoyed many a curling game. He also enjoyed fishing and did a lot of golfing and spent a lot of time reading. Charles was also a member of The Pilot Mound Legion. Charles was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone that needed help. In 1965 he married Violet Maya of Clearwater and together they farmed for a few more years until heart problems forced them to retire. They moved to La Riviere in 1972 where they enjoyed gardening and attending to their flowers. He especially enjoyed the time spent with the grandchildren as well as two great-grandchildren. Charles and Violet also spent sometime travelling. The highlight of their travels was a trip back to Scotland. Due to failing health Charles spent the last couple of years residing at Rock Lake Personal Care Home. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Violet; daughter, Linda and husband, David; grandson, Scott; granddaughter, Lori, husband, John Penner and their children Melissa and Nicolas; granddaughter, Shelly and Fiance Brent Manning; sister, Betty Charette and family of Winnipeg; sister-in-law, Mable Chapman and family of Manitou; sister-in-law, Doreen and husband, Jim Maryk of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Ann and Emily ODell of Winnipeg; numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth Chapman; brother, Bill; brother-in-law, Bert Charette; stepson, Ed Mayo; father and mother-in-law Philo and Emma ODell; brothers-in-law, Edgar and Jack ODell; sister-in-law, Olive and her husband Jack Cuthbert. Charles will be greatly missed by his family for his kindness and gentle ways. Rest in Peace "Gramps" A private family funeral was held on February 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Laurie Simpson officiating. Interment followed at Crystal City Cemetery. Grahams Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
