Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA MANITOWICH June 7, 1920 - Sunday, February 9, 2003 Courageously, after an heroic struggle, Olga Manitowich passed away at Concordia Hospital. Olga will be forever remembered by her children, Lena (Tom McDougal) and Terry (Kathy) and her grandchildren, Craig McDougal and Susan Bywater (Gregg) sister Nellie Apshkrum; brothers, Peter (Stella), William (Stella), Leonard (Reva), Daniel (Elaine) brother-in-law Don Lefteruk; sister-in-law Nellie Trochim. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony, on February 6, 2002, by her parents Nicholas and Lena, sister Julia, brothers Michael and Joseph. Olga was born in Libau, MB, where she helped her parents on their farm and with the raising of her siblings. She married Dad in 1941 after which they purchased a grocery store in Winnipeg. She and Dad moved to Transcona in 1948 after purchasing a billiard parlour with Tonys brother, Peter. They lived in Transcona from that time on. She helped in the operation of a family-owned laundromat, worked at the Starlight Drive-In from its opening where she met many young people with whom she remained friends. She also worked at Eatons mail order and in the Woolco kitchen. In retirement, Mom and Dad were able to travel through areas of the US including Alaska, to the Maritimes, to spend time at the cottage at Nutimik Lake, to spend time with her grand-children and to work tirelessly with her close friends at St. Michaels Church. The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to the staff of Concordia Hospital Emergency Room and Palliative Care Unit. Your kindness to us at this incredibly difficult time cannot be measured. Panakhyda will be sung on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Michaels Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day St. Divine Liturgy will be sung on Wednesday, February 12, at 10:00 a.m., also at the church, Rt. Rev. Msgr. V.J. Bozyk and Rev. Fr. A. Wach officiating. Interment will follow at Transcona Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Messrs. Peter, William, Leonard and Daniel Trochim, Don Lefteruk and Ron Manitowich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olgas memory to the St. Michaels Cultural Centre Fund or Concordia Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
