ROBERT W. JOHNSTON (BOB) December 2, 1929 - February 8, 2003 After a courageous battle with diabetes, Robert passed away peacefully in his sleep. Left to cherish his love and wonderful memories are his wife and best friend, Peggy Kane. He was President and C.E.O of Robert Johnston Ltd, and a long standing member of the Southwood Golf and Country Club, Granite Curling Club and Winnipeg Gyro Club. Robert was an excellent athlete, he excelled in golf and skiing. He loved the mountains. Also surviving are daughters, Sheila (Jim) Wall of Winnipeg, Jennifer Johnston of Oakville, ON; and son Steve Johnston of Winnipeg. Robert was predeceased by his son Tom Johnston on March 31, 1990. Robert also had stepchildren; daughters, Shawn (Leonard) Trotter of Winnipeg, Lori (Larry) Young of Calgary; sons, Bill (Kim) Kane of Oakbank and Paul (Carla) Kane of Victoria, BC; grandchildren, Laurel and Carly Trotter of Winnipeg, Trevor Young of Calgary, Brianna and Paul Connor Kane of Victoria. Robert spent many happy hours at the lake teaching the children the art of cribbage and played every board game known. In January, Robert had cataract surgery which greatly restored his failing eyesight. We also had two new legs made by his capable friend Larry Lawson of Lawson Prosthetics. On Saturday evening, February 8 Robert had a wonderful evening at Tavern in the Park with family and we know he went to sleep a "Happy Man". He will live in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Roberts life will take place on Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3Y 5Y5.
