JAMES (JIM) WANKEL CARNOCHAN Jim passed away after a struggle with pneumonia on February 10, 2003. He is survived by his wife Helen and his three sons, Wayne (Bev), Doug (Stephanie) and Dave. Jim is also survived by his grandchildren, Tara of Winnipeg, Andrew, Averyl and Gareth of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his brother Ken (Doris) as well as many other extended family members all of Seaforth, ON. He was predeceased by his first wife Willis in 1990. Jim was born in Seaforth, ON on the family farm on October 7, 1926. After leaving home at a very young age, he joined the Canadian Navy and served as a gunner during the Second World War. After becoming injured during active duty, he received a medical discharge. Jim and Willis raised their three sons first in Kitchener, ON and later settled in Winnipeg in the mid 1950s. He spent his entire working life as a professional driver within the heavy truck transportation industry. Dad was very proud of his over 40 years as a professional long distance transport driver, a career that spanned throughout Canada and the USA. He was one of the first to drive the Trans Canada highway to Winnipeg and can be considered one of the true pioneers of cross Canada trucking. Dad was always wanting and willing to see new country, a born trucker. He saw all Canadian provinces and most of the 52 states, with many unique life experiences along the road. He discovered the rest of the world outside of his truck cab after his retirement. He literally grabbed a full handful of life each and every morning and joyfully experienced all that came across his path. Jim and Helen found each other, and happiness together. They married in September 1998 and continued to live in Ste. Anne. Dad greatly enjoyed his garden and bird watching from his deck along with his very real love for his dogs and all manner of wildlife, which brought him tremendous pleasure throughout his life. Jim will also be missed by Helens family, Susan, Ian, James and Robert. Jims family would like to thank Dr. Patrick Fredette and the staff of the Ste. Anne Hospital and the Home Care Program for the excellent care that was provided for Jim. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
