J.B. JOHNSTONE With sorrow, the family of J. B. Johnstone announces his passing, on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at the St. Boniface Hospital, following a lengthy illness. John is survived by his devoted wife Gladys; daughter Barbara (Lloyd) Dreger; and son David Johnstone (Ginette) five grandchildren; and his brother Dick (Ollie) of Victoria, BC. Also surviving are his nephew Tom Johnstone (Ev) and niece Janet Newbold (Jim). They have been a tower of strength during these difficult years. John was born in the city of Winnipeg on February 4, 1916, to Janet and William Johnstone. The family moved to St. Vital in 1921. He was always proud of being in the original "Baby Room" on the opening day of Norberry School. Following service in the R.C.A.F. from 1941 to 1945 he worked at various jobs before being hired at the CNR in 1948. He retired in 1980. John and Gladys were married in 1948 and raised their children in St. Vital. He was associated with the St. Vital Seniors Curling Club and Windsor Masonic Lodge and was a cancer driver for 11 years through Masons Care. His five grandchildren, Robert, Eric and Julie Johnstone and Brent and Robyn Dreger were very dear to him. He took a great deal of interest in their activities and accomplishments. Cremation has taken place and a reception celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Edward J.
