MARIE DELIA MASON Peacefully and surrounded by loving husband and family, Delia Mason was called to her eternal home on February 9, 2003. Mourning her passing is Alex, her loving husband of 48 years; her children, Lionel (Lou), Joan Wood (Eddy), Lucille, Loren (Sheila), Nina Manoakeesick (Lawrence), Abby Manoakeesick (Stanley), Verna McDougall (Oscar), and Mickey. She is also mourned by 33 grand-children and 14 great-grandchildren, her 99 year old mother-in-law Aggie Mason as well as a large extended family. Delia was predeceased by all members of her family of origin including her parents, Isaac and Bella Wood; and her father-in-law Moses Mason. Delia was born on February 7, 1937 in St. Theresa Point and lived there all her life. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most important to her. Through her story-telling and by her faith in God, she tried to instill the right values and virtues to guide them in life. She enjoyed telling stories to her grandchildren about her childhood days on the trapline. She was happiest when she was busy preparing for special family gatherings - Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays were special celebrations. She thrived on preparing the fish, moose, ducks/geese, or berries that various members of her family would bring to her. She enjoyed beading, embroidery and decorating the tikinakan for the new babies. She used these and other occasions to teach the young ones. Delia was a very happy person and never complaining about her illness. Her spirit, her faith and her humour was a light that could be felt by those around her. Together with Alex, her husband, she kept the family together. They prayed in their own home - she believed and often said that families should pray together in their own homes to help them to stay strong. Wake services to be held in St. Theresa Point Tuesday and Wednesday, February 11 and 12, and funeral mass at the STP Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, February 13, 2003, at 1:00 p.m., with Fr. Laroche officiating. Interment to follow at St. Theresa Point Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6, if desired.
