RUBY SYLVIA SCHINDLER (nee KELLY) Peacefully in her sleep, it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom and Amma, Ruby Schindler, aged 74 years, at the Betel Home in Selkirk, on February 11, 2003. Ruby leaves to mourn her two sons and their families, Dennis (Donalda) and grandchildren, Caitlin, Victoria and Rory; and Douglas and granddaughter Mercede. She also leaves surviving two brothers, Emil and Jonas (Joe) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Tom Schindler for whom she cared for tirelessly until his passing in 1982; her father and mother, Andrew and Margaret; as well as two brothers, Magnus (Mike) and Gudmundur (Mundi). Ruby grew up on the family farm at Breezy Point, later taking her nurses training and working for a number of years prior to her marriage to Tom in 1949. Over the next 33 years she cared for Dad through his accident and illnesses and resumed her nursing career in Selkirk, while working with Dad on the development of the Schindler Subdivision in Clandeboye. In their later years, Mom and Dad travelled throughout North America in their van and after Dads passing, Mom spent her winters in Panama City Beach, FL, where she made many new friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Betel Home in Selkirk for their kindness and caring over the past three and one-half years. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 14 at 2:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Interment to take place at a later date in the Clandeboye United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rudys memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Mom, we will miss you deeply. We will always be thankful to you for driving us to hockey and we cherish those memories that make us smile. We will think of you always when we pass through Clandeboye, seeing all the trees you planted and cared for throughout your life. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
