JOHN MacRAE It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of John MacRae on February 11, 2003 after a brief illness. Jock was born at Fascachapple in the Highlands near Inverness, Scotland on April 6, 1921. He was a commando with the Lovat Scouts during the Second World War and saw action in the Faroe Islands, Greece and Italy where he was mentioned in dispatches. Jock immigrated to Winnipeg in April 1948. He worked for the CN Express, retiring in 1983 as Operations Supervisor. He belonged to the IOOF (Alpha Lodge), was a member of Harrow United Church and volunteered for 19 years with Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his wife Betty MacRae (nee Elliott) and children, Ian, Sheila, Peggy and Maureen MacRae and their spouses, Lydia Avery, Jeffrey Melvin, Desmond McComish; and his treasured grandchildren, William and Hayden MacRae, Sara and Alec Melvin. Also survived by his sister Mary Urquhart and brother William MacRae of Inverness, Scotland. Fondly remembered by the Choate, Elliott and Fraser families in Canada and many nieces and nephews in Scotland and New Zealand. Predeceased by parents, John and Dolina MacRae; brothers, Tom and Donald; sisters, Jen, Peg and Nan. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. "Je suis prest." A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey St., with the Rev. Teresa Moysey officiating.
