(THOMAS) ROSS FARGEY Born January 14, 1935, in Windygates, MB, son of Ethel and Frank Fargey (both deceased). Survived by my loyal and caring wife, Mona; daughter, (of polo renown) Dayelle Bradley (Bob) and equally talented, intuitive human, son Kyle. Siblings: Beth Zaruby (deceased) (Walter) and Jack (Joan). And as for the nephews (no nieces) Stephen and Jeff Zaruby, Pat, Mike and Pete Fargey - do have a good time at my wake - no arrests and no fights! My brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Carrie and Gary Mackie (Andrew, Penelope, Kirsten, Tiffany and Chase). Life was a giggle, other than deaths of my parents (devastating) and all and other sorrows to others and myself were direct fault of one TRF. Childhood in Windygates, growing up in Isaac Brock area of Winnipeg. Schools Wolseley, Isaac Brock, Gordon Bell, University of Manitoba and the University of Guelph. All quite fun though certainly not wildly successful academically. Fraternity (Sigma Lambda Phi) and sports: lacrosse, hockey and anything else for recreation. Grand Beach ($300 cabin) of more than a little import. Horses and polo took over after that. Previous perverse ponies of home in Windygates and many, many nags thereafter "Not with-standing". Polo led to many travels and many, many good friends in diverse lands. Career - what career? Teaching in Transcona and Ghana, West Africa. A confession: in love with that damn perverse country. It has not become its potential of 1957 independence. Most humble lab, National Biological Laboratory, provided necessities of misspent life. Some projects were of considerable personal interest. Oakbank United Church and search for beliefs provided some respite to a mind often questioning. Goodbye good Earth and I wish I had left it a much better place than I experienced it. Written in total by TRF. Special thanks to Dr. Blake McClarty for enabling Ross to have his way until the very end. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the Oakbank United Church on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakbank United Church or the Manitoba Lacrosse Alumni, 19 Edelweiss Cres., Winnipeg, MB R2G 1Z3. Saturday morning rides on police polo ponies in Tamale, Ghana (especially the cavalry charge one morning across an open field). I remember Ross practicing on a clarinet from time to time. On another occasion Ross got me out of bed at 10 pm to drive to Bolgatanga, 100 miles north, to go to a dance. The gate arm was down at the provencial border so we drove under it. The guard was sleeping. Ross had a little Hillman and with the top down we just fit. Sorry this was so late in coming. - Posted by: Greg Smith (Friend-fellow teacher in Ghana at Tamale Technical Institute.) on: Mar 08, 2014
