TARAS UZWYSHYN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father, didynu, voyko, uncle, friend, on January 3, 2003. Funeral rite took place in Edmonton, AB. Taras leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Audrey; children, Constance (Dr. H. Jones Uzwyshyn) England, Tanis (Dr. M. Hobart) precious grandchildren, Kazimir, Maksym Taras, Eve and Anna; sister Halia Balas and her children, Larisa (S. Burgess), Andrea Balas, Daria (Dr. O. Zmiyiwsky), Shawna Balas; brother Evhan (Sylvia) and their children, Dr. Roman Uzwyshyn (Miami, FL), Dr. Mira Uzwyshyn (New York). Taras also leaves to mourn great-nieces and nephews who loved him unconditionally, Taras and Evania Henkewich, Andrew and Mira Zmiyiwsky, Christin and Caitlin Burgess. Taras received his B.Sc., B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba. As an educator, Taras taught at Silver Heights Collegiate, and was a principal at Taras Shevchenko Collegiate, Vita, MB. In Edmonton, Taras excelled as a professor in the English Department, a Basso Profundo with the Dniepro Male Chorus, Verhovyna Choir, St. Andrews Orthodox Choir. Throughout his scholastic years Taras attended ridna shkola at Prosvita; studied church and folk music with Dr. P. Macenko, F. Rekrut, and W. Bohonos. Taras was a member of St. Marys Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church Choir, Boyan Choir, MUNO, CYMK, President - Ilarion Ukrainian students at the University of Manitoba. From age 11 to 20 he officiated as an altar boy to Metropolitan Dr. Ilarion Ohienko. When Taras retired he was appointed to teach English at the university, Kyiv, Ukraine. Panahyda (memorial service) will be held on Sunday, February 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 1175 Main St. Rev. Harkavyi officiant.
