MARGARET MacLEAN JOHNSTON (GRETA) (nee ADAMSON) With her family by her side and with a joke and a smile Margaret Johnston passed away on February 13, 2003, three days before her 75th birthday. Mom had a big heart and will be remembered by everyone she met as a caring and thoughtful person. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Hilda. She leaves to mourn her husband of 54 years William (Bill) and her three daughters and their families, Carol (Tom), Debbie (Wayne) and Billie (Gerry) and her grandchildren, Devon, Aaron, D.R., Whitney, Ashleigh and Jenny. She is also survived by her sisters, Catherine and Sheila and her brothers, Herbert and James; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom loved the water and was a natural swimmer even as a young girl. As a competitive swimmer she won many trophies and medals. In 1946 she won the Wrigley Mile and represented the province in the Canadian Senior Mile Competition. Out of her love of water grew a career in teaching swimming and lifeguarding. At the age of 65 she retired from the City of Winnipeg as an Instructor / Guard but she continued as a volunteer with the Winnipeg School Division Adapted Program for a number of years. Mom loved nothing better than a good joke. Her other pastimes included bingo, playing cards and shuffleboard with the seniors group in her block. She loved her family and was always there when you needed her. Thanks for the years you gave us Mom, the times we shared. We know that when you left us you knew how much we cared. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St. Winnipeg MB R3L 0K6 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg MB R3C 0S6. The family would like to thank the staff of ICU at Victoria Hospital for taking care of our mother.
