NICHOLAS (NICK) CHOPTIANYJ Peacefully after a lengthy illness with his family by his side, on Friday, February 14, 2003, at St. Boniface Hospital, Nick Choptianyj, aged 80 years. Nick was born on January 1, 1923, in Zubiw, Ukraine. In 1948 he came to Canada with his wife Marie and son Ihor (Thor), settling in Winnipeg. He was sponsored by his uncle John Turanski, where he worked as an apprentice plumber. In 1955 he opened his own plumbing business until suffering a stroke in 1992. Nick was a member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral since 1948, and a member of Plast Ukrainian Youth Association. He was predeceased by his father Maksym, brother Bohdan and two infant sisters. Besides his beloved wife Marie of 57 years, he leaves to cherish his memory his children, Dr. Ihor (Thor) (Chrystyna) and their children, Ariadna, Maxym, Platon and Renata; Dr. Bohden (Bob) (Carole Prince) and their children, Danielle and Catherine; Oksana Choptiany (John Bogucki) and their children, Brianna and Laryssa; his mother Warwara. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law Maria Chlysta; nephews and nieces, Dr. Terry Chlysta (Sharon) and their children; Dr. Walter Chlysta (Lisa) and their baby daughter; Dr. Dana Chlysta and her children; Dr. Lesia Chlysta; numerous relatives in Ukraine, Canada and the U.S.A. Panakhyda will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 19 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., with Rev. M. Kouts officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Nicks memory may be made to Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral Maintenance Fund. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
