KRISTJAN (KRIS) NIKULAS SNIDAL Peacefully on Friday evening, February 14, 2003, our dearest Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa quietly slipped away. Kris was born to Johann and Johanna Snidal on December 19, 1911 at Lillsve, MB. As a young man he went to work fishing on Lake Winnipeg in summer and winter, and harvesting crews in the fall. In September of 1930 Kris moved to Steep Rock to work in the store for his uncle Fiddi Snidal. This is where he met his wife Edith Shiells. They were married on September 11, 1938. Kris continued to work in the store and drive the PSV to Winnipeg for supplies until the spring of 1943. At that time he started working for Canada Cement Ltd. His son Brian was born the next year. Kris retired as Superintendent in 1976 at the age of 65 years. After retirement he enjoyed trout fishing at Grand Rapids, gardening, and keeping a meticulously cut lawn. Kris had been a devoted Masonic Lodge member for 60 some years, holding several offices. In his younger years he enjoyed playing cards, curling, and taking an active part in all community affairs. In April of 1992 his wife Edith passed away, leaving a large void in his life, as everything they did, they did together. In the last few years Kris had home care workers at breakfast time each day. He so appreciated Carrie, Joan and Tyson coming and looked forward to their arrival every day. He leaves to mourn his son Brian (Margaret) grandsons Shawn (Louise), Aaron (Tracy), Vernon; and great-granddaughter Stella. He also leaves behind his brother Stanley (Ada) Snidal and their family in St. Albert, AB, Gerald (Irene), Bruce (Janice) and Carol from Whitehorse, Mark (Sharlene) from Halifax; brother-in-law Lynn (Shiela) Shiells of Yorkton, SK; sisters-in-law Elsie Shiells and Evelyn Shiells of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Harold Shiells of Winnipeg; also several nieces and nephews. Kris was predeceased by his wife Edith; mother Johanna; father Johann; sister Leola (Gordon) his in-laws; niece Gail and nephew Brian; brothers-in-law, Gordon Shiells, Earl Shiells; and sister-in-law Florence (Jack) Waldvogel. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Faulkner Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with interment to follow at a later date at the Faulkner Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Marais, nurses and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital, for the care and kindness given to Kris and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Runa Mangl, Box 591, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0, for use in the Palliative Care Unit Arrangements by: Arnason Funeral Homes Ltd.
