JOHN M. DUCHAK (JACK) Passed away at the Grace Hospital on February 15, 2003, at the age of 97. John (Jack) was born June 7, 1905 in Moose Jaw, NT. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife Nellie, daughter Shirley (Glenn) and brother Dave (Lauraine) four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Grandpa grew up in Moose Jaw, SK. He played both hockey and baseball in his teens and early 20s, and worked for the CPR at that time. On March 21, 1933, he and Grandma were married and moved to Flin Flon where he found work with the Hudson Bay mine. They returned to Winnipeg in 1942 where he worked for TCA (Air Canada) until his retirement in 1970. They spent 53 years in their home at 390 Amherst St. in St. James before moving to the Westhaven seniors residence two years ago. Grandpa always loved to be active, curling well into his 90s at the Deer Lodge Curling Club. He loved his cars and a Sunday drive. Most of all, he felt pride and joy in each new generation of family. We have many fond memories of Grandpa helping us to learn how to ride a bike, to skate or to catch a ball. He would often take time to take us to the store for candy or a toy. We miss him already but are so happy to have known him for so many years. A memorial service will take place Thursday, February 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jacks memory to the Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
