Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN BERGTHORA EIRIKSSON Peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 16, 2003 at Portage General Hospital, Evelyn Bergthora Eiriksson, beloved wife of Ernest Eiriksson, passed away at the age of 73 years. She is survived by two children, Jo-Ann (Frank) Mutcher and their two children Kristofer and Ashleigh, Brian and his three daughters Heather, Jenna, and Stephanie; two brothers, Einar (Edythe) Sigurdson and Asgar (Doris) Sigurdson of Lakeland; two sisters, Helga (Eddie) Lasson of Portage and Viola Wild of Lakeland; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Bjornson of Winnipeg, and Ella (Bert) Sandercock of Selkirk, and numerous nieces and nephews. On August 4, 1951, Evelyn married Ernest Eiriksson and together they established their home in the Lakeland District, where they lived for 51 years. Evelyn dedicated her life to her home and her family. Many happy memories were created in her flower gardens. Evelyn was born in Winnipeg on March 3, 1929, the first child for Skapti and Runa Sigurdson of Oakview, Manitoba. She attended Darwin Elementary School at Oakview and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and Teachers Training College in Winnipeg. She taught school at Ralph Connor, Stockton, and Eden. Evelyn enjoyed teaching and maintained her skills by helping as a substitute teacher in the following years. Evelyn was an industrious worker and enjoyed helping others. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church Council for many years and served as an officer on many church organizations. She was secretary of the Lutheran Ladies Aid for years. Evelyn was a charter member of the Langruth Royal Purple and a leader of the 4-H Beef Club for 25 years. In July of 1992, she was stricken by a debilitating stroke. The next ten years were spent quietly at home, where she was happiest. As long as the flowers bloom and the sun shines, she will indeed be home. Ernest would like to express his appreciation to family and friends who were so kind to us for the past ten years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the Grace Lutheran Church, Langruth with Pastor Norris Nordin officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Lakeland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyns memory to Grace Lutheran Church, Box 238, Langruth, MB R0H 0N0, or to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Clarkes Funeral Home, Gladstone in care of arrangements. Those we hold most dear never truly leave us, They live on in the kindnesses they showed, The comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives.
