ERNA KLASSEN We announce with sorrow the peaceful passing of our beloved aunt, Erna Klassen, at Concordia Hospital, on February 16, at age 88. Erna was born in 1914, in Barvenkovo, Ukraine and came to Canada with her family in 1925. After a winter in Giroux, MB, they moved to Winnipeg, where Erna attended William White School, then to North Kildonan where she went to Lord Kitchener School. In 1941 she graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Boniface Hospital. She practised her profession in Winkler, in Mexico with MCC (1947-49), as private nurse, and for many years at the Rehab Hospital. Erna loved travel. Accompanied by her friend Clara and her camera, she enjoyed four trips to Europe, South America, a Caribbean cruise and visits to relatives. For the last three years, Erna lived at Donwood Manor EPH. She was a member of the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren church since her baptism in 1931. Predeceased by her parents; four sisters and six brothers, she is mourned by her remaining sister, Anne Wilms; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Jakob) Klassen, Mary (Cornelius) Klassen, her dear friend and travelling companion, Clara Schellenberg, and many nephews and nieces, as well as their children, all of whom she received in her home with great love and great meals. A funeral service for Erna Klassen will be held on Thursday, February 20, 10:30 a.m., at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with viewing prior to the service. If friends desire, donations may be made to Donwood Manor Pastoral Care Fund. Interment at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
