STEWART BARKWELL Peacefully on February 20, 2002 at Oakview Place, Stewart passed away at age 87. Stewart is lovingly remembered by Betty, his wife of 60 years; sons, Lawrence (Diana), Vernon (Monique), Bryan, Bruce (Carol), Robert (Nancy), and daughter Janet, and numerous grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, John (Edna) and Lorne (Elsie). Stewart was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Janet; and his sister Agnes Elizabeth. He completed his electric engineering degree at the University of Manitoba. Stewart was a very dedicated long-term employee of Canadian General Electric until his retirement in 1980. Stewart gave tirelessly of his time and energy and truly lived his life in the service of others. He served as a commissioned lieutenant in the army engineers during the Second World War. Professionally, Stewart was active on committees and served as president of the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba. A devout Christian, Stewart actively participated as a scout leader, Sunday school teacher and elder at St. Andrews River Heights United Church. His active involvement carried on at West Hawk United Church during the summer months and throughout his retirement. During retirement, Stewart and Betty lived the snowbird life in Pharr, Texas while maintaining summer residence in the Whiteshell at Tanglewood and The Pines. Stewarts love of dancing both square and round, gardening, card playing (notably bridge) and his fascination with genealogy filled his retirement years. Stewart was the consummate punster and truly that Jack of all Trades. Stuarts love of Betty, his family and friends, and his abiding belief in God were his guideposts in a long fulfilling life. The family would like to thank the staffs and care givers at the Rosewood and Oakview Place for their dedicated care of Stewart. Donations in Stewarts memory can be made to St. Andrews River Heights United Church at 255 Oak St. or The Prairie Christian Training Center, Box 154 Fort QuAppelle, SK, S0G 1S0. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrews River Heights United Church on Saturday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m.
