EINAR FREDRIK GUTTORMSON Peacefully, on Friday, February 21, 2003, at Deer Lodge Centre, Fred passed away at the age of 81 years. Fred was born on December 9, 1921 in Libau, (Poplar Park) MB. The first born son of Einar and Holmfridur (Freda) Guttormson. His parents and brother Henrik predeceased him. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Carol (Hunnie) and his devoted children, Roy, Doug (Connie), Arlene (Larry), Carl (Sherry) and Cheryl (Ed). His grandchildren whom he loved dearly will especially miss him, Keith, Lindsay, Mandy, Eric, Shantal, Michael, Shannon and Tyler. Also left to mourn his passing are his eight siblings, Birgitta of Toronto, Asdis, Helga and Bertie of Winnipeg, Eileen of Chilliwack, BC, Jonas and Clifford of Winnipeg and Sam of Libau. Dad received his education in Libau. He joined the R.C. Artillery in 1943 and went overseas in 1944. Dad was wounded in the war but thankfully came home in one piece. Dad was quietly proud of serving his country, he deplored war as he was a gentle and peaceful man. Dad was employed at the Manitoba Rolling Mill and also ran the farm. Dad enjoyed reading, sports, farming and hunting with his friends and sons. Dad was also a pretty good curler. He had a mischievous sense of humour and a great "wink". Dad was a devoted husband, father and Afi and his passing leaves a void in our lives, but we will remember him in our hearts and minds forever. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbarts Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment at the St. James Anglican Church in Libau will follow at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Cliff and Ted Youd, Dick and Sharon Jones, Larry Ginter, Ed Cleary, James Boulton and Kurt Anderson The family would like to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre (T3). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimers Society or the charity of your choice. Goda Nott Afi Gilbarts Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
