Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTOM LAZARENKO Peacefully with his family by his side on February 21, 2003 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, Tom Lazarenko passed away at the age of 86. Tom was born on September 13, 1916 in New Valley, Arborg, MB. Tom was predeceased by a brother and sister in infancy, years of 1914 and 1923, his father William in 1953, his mother Mary in 1979, baby daughter in 1954, his wife Doris in 1982, brother Mike in 1993. Left to cherish his memories are Lee Holz and son Peter (Donna), sons, Roman and Frances, Russell, Roger and Mildred; daughters, Emily and Cornie Reimer, Irene and Doug Graham, Vivian and Doug McCallum and Hazel Larabie and Mike Lewis. Brothers, Nick and Olga, John and Gail, Harry and Judy; sisters, Anne Gruczecky, Kay and Bill Tereck, Nellie and John Oberton, Elsie and Cas Glisinski; 19 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Leaving home at an early age, looking for work during the depression years, he enlisted in the army in 1941. In 1945 Tom met and married Doris Malinowski. They moved to Eagle River, ON working in a bush camp. They came back to Winnipeg and Tom started work with the City of Winnipeg in 1950. With his wife and seven children, they enjoyed summer holidays at various lakes. Tom and Doris owned a store in Matlock, MB. After his retirement from the City, Tom and his wife continued to travel to U.S.A. and in Canada. Tom loved playing his fiddle and formed the Happy Gang Band, playing at various functions. After the death of his wife Doris on May 21, 1982, Tom met and shared the rest of his life with Lee Holz for 20 years. They travelled to Europe and to the cottage at Winnipeg Beach. Tom fought a courageous battle with Parkinsons disease. Lee was by his side to the very end. Tom moved to the Holy Family Nursing Home where the administration and staff provided excellent care to him for one and a half years. He was admitted to the Seven Oaks General Hospital where he stayed for his last two weeks of his life. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. J. Moncek, nurses and staff in Units 4 and 5, 3rd floor for their compassion and efforts to provide constant care. Prayers will be held on Monday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. also at the chapel with Rev. Fr. John Melnyk officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Adam Lazarenko, Tom Lazarenko, Danny Lazarenko, Greg Haney, Peter Holz and Mike Petroff.
