HILDE BERGEN (nee VOGT) After a long illness on February 22, 2003 at Concordia Hospital, Hilde, wife of Jakob Bergen of Winnipeg, died at the age of 61 years. Besides her husband she is survived by her three sons, Randy (Renate), Vern (special friend Suzanne), and Ron; six grandchildren, Noelle, Jeremy, Michaela, Ashley, Marc, Karleigh. She also leaves to mourn brothers, Jake (Agnes) Vogt, Peter (Ruth) Vogt; sisters, Anna (Ernest) Heise, and Maria Dyck; as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Hilde was predeceased by daughter Angelika Bergen, mother Maria Vogt, father Heinrich Vogt and sister Helene Quiering. Hilde was born September 3, 1941 in Osterwick, Ukraine. At the age of two, due to the war and fear of persecution, the family left their home and moved to Germany. Five years later the family left Germany without their father, who was forced into the army and immigrated to Paraguay. Hilde and her family resided in Paraguay for 11 years, at which time the family immigrated to Canada. In Winnipeg is where she met her husband Jakob Bergen and were married on July 27, 1963. Hilde worked for Paulins Chambers on and off for 25 years until the company closed its doors in the early 1990s. Hilde had a passion for fishing, going to the cottage, needlepoint and petitpoint, card games with her friends and family, and being with her grandchildren. Hilde was a very special woman who has touched many peoples lives. Hilde often cared about others more than herself. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 10:00 a.m. in North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery.
