RAYMOND WHITFORD (WABANAKOT) After a courageous battle with cancer, with wife Mary, family, friends and relatives by his side, Wabanakot passed away on February 22, 2003 at the Portage General Hospital at the age of 53 years. Wabanakot, loving husband of Mary, was born and raised in Sandy Bay. In fulfilment of a wish, Raymond and Mary renewed their wedding vows in the presence of family and friends with Fr. Mike Nwosu officiating. Raymond and Mary shared 26 wonderful years together. Raymond will be remembered for his kindness and his good sense of humour. His love for hunting, fishing, and camping will always be a part of his memory everyone will cherish. He was very spiritual and traditional, a keeper and a carrier of a little water drum. His beautiful voice healed many troubled people, and in particular the youth. He worked with Child and Family Services and provided quality care and time with the youth under his care. He was a loving, devoted husband, friend, uncle, and grandfather. He leaves to mourn his wife Mary; stepchildren, Valerie (Allan), Franklin (Brenda), Darren (Sharron) his grandchildren, Michelle, Candace, Frank Jr., Jamie, Marie, Brittany, Darnelle, Darren Jr., Brenden, Louise Anne, and Nash; and two great-grandchildren Shante and Shanae. He loved them all so dearly. Also surviving are his brothers, Solomon Houle, Danny (Donna), Wayne (Corrine), and Edward (Sandra) sisters, Betty (Dave), Beatrice (Stan), Eleanor (Terry), Linda, and Madeline. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Julia; sisters, Sadie and Nancy; and brothers, Joe and James. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 27, in Our Lady Of The Angels Catholic Church, Amaranth, MB with Fr. Mike Nwosu officiating. Interment will follow at the Haven Of Rest Cemetery, Amaranth. Pallbearers will be Herbie Malcolm, Freddie Starr, David Bird, Cecil Desjarlais, Patrick West, and Ted Pauwells. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Pelletier, Brian Beaulieu, Frankie Desjarlais, Donald Desjarlais, Andrew Houle, Douglas Desjarlais, Harry Desjarlais, Michael Marychuk, and his R & R coffee buddies.
