HELEN DYCK On Sunday morning, February 23, 2003, at age 98, Helen Dyck interrupted her usual routine of going to church and instead joined the heavenly choir, being reunited with her dear family who had all gone before. She will be especially missed by her grandniece in Winnipeg, three nieces in Alberta, as well as other relatives in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Austria, Uruguay and Russia. Helen was born on September 6, 1904 in Rosenthal, South Russia, the youngest of five daughters. After the fearful experiences of the Revolution she and her sister Mary escaped to Germany, and then immigrated to Canada in 1947. The sisters settled briefly in Rosthern, SK and then moved to Winnipeg. Helen spent her working life as a domestic at Grace Hospital. She found her spiritual home at the Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church where she was a committed member and participant. Her faith was humble and sincere, and she nourished her soul in the singing of loved hymns. Her last years were spent at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home where she received compassionate and dignified care for which we are very grateful. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy., with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
