JOSEPH BERNARD (Ben) PLANTE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ben Plante, beloved husband, father, grand-father and great-grandfather, peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the age of 86 years. Ben was born in Navin, MB and worked on the family farm with his parents and siblings until he joined the Air Force. He was stationed in B.C. during the Second World War. Ben worked as a heavy equipment operator during the war, and for a time after he left the forces. Ben met his wife, Velva (Hannah) and married her in 1946. They resided in St. Boniface until they moved to Cooks Creek, MB, in the early 1960s, where he resided until his passing. Most of Bens life he worked as a mechanic until he joined the Corp of Commissioners and was employed with them for 15 years. Ben was a life time member of the Hazelridge/Springfield Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 146. Ben loved lots of company. He enjoyed growing potatoes and giving them away. Ben also enjoyed coming to church in Winnipeg to hear his Latin Mass. He was quick to give a lending hand, and slow to take one back. Ben is survived by his loving spouse Velva, son Fredrick (Pat), daughter Dawn (Wally) and son Kelvin (Connie) grandchildren, Candace Berrie of Whitehorse, YK, Judith Berrie and Suzanne DeGagne (Paul) of Winnipeg, and Mike (Maureen) and Teresa (Roland) of Springfield. Ben will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law Frank Roeland, sister-in-law Joanne Plante and many nieces, nephews, friends and family. He will also be missed by his very special neighbours and friends, Walter and Frances Andrejowich and Tony and Nellie Lefko. Ben was predeceased by his parents, Lena and Arthur Plante, brothers, Arthur, Alfred and Marcien, and sisters, Cedelie, Blanche, Mary and Noella. Prayers will be held on Friday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. with viewing one half hour prior. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. in our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 480 McKenzie St. with Rev. Father Patrick Girouard presiding. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Seniors Complex, Kin Place in Oakbank and Pleasant View Nursing Home. Heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Beausejour Hospital. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
