MAURICE BEARDY It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother and brother-in-law, uncle and nephew, Maurice Beardy of Lake St. Martin First Nation at the age of 54 on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the Victoria General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barry and wife Karrie; Donna and husband Patrick Thompson, and Murray and Shannon; his nine grandchildren, Sarah, Terrance, Raven, Eric, Diamond, Devon, Saralyn, Braden, and special grandson Jeremy; his six brothers, Frank, Harry, Charles (Lucy), David (Eva), Kingsley (Sylvia), Garnet (Darlene) his two sisters, Eleanor (Hugh) Hunter and Ida Ross; aunt Cassie Einarsson; uncle William Woodford. He will also be remembered by his in-laws, Beatrice Beardy, MaryAnne OMeara, Alice Gergiel (Wally), Evelyn Anderson, Doris Anderson, Isabella (Jerry) Sumner, Elsie Thompson and Miles Anderson; as well as by numerous relatives and friends. Maurice was predeceased by his wife Sara in 1986; his parents, Solomon in 1993, Emma in 1992; his brother Kenneth in 2001; his granddaughter Charity in 1994; his grandson Wyatt in 2001; as well as brothers-in-law, Louis Anderson, Clare Thompson, Edward OMeara and Leonard Anderson. Maurice grew up and lived in Lake St. Martin his whole life. In 1969 he married Sara and together they started their family. He held many titles during his lifetime and was a very hard worker. In his younger years he worked with his father, logging, fishing and farming. After getting married he continued fishing and began carpentry work, building homes. He served the community of Lake St. Martin for six years as a Band Counsellor. He was an avid outdoorsman. Maurice enjoyed camping, hunting, trapping and fishing. He was also very fond of horses and introduced his family and grandchildren to them. He spent many hours teaching them to care and respect horses. He often helped his brothers with livestock and farming. Maurice was patient, caring and generous to his grandchildren and loved them very much. He believed in the Lord and taught his children and grandchildren to pray. Maurice will be sadly missed by everyone, his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters and friends. A wake service will be held on Friday, February 28 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 12:00 noon. Both services will be held at the Lake St. Martin Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Lester Sinclair and Jim Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake St. Martin Cemetery. Pallbearers, Kurtis Beardy, Maurice P. Beardy, Raymond Beardy, Alex Morse, Charles Ross, Faron Ross. Crossbearer Norman Ryle. Honorary pallbearers will be all those that knew Maurice.
