GEORGE McKAY After a courageous battle with over 20 years of diabetes, George McKay was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer on August 22, 2002. Sadly he passed away on February 23, 2003 at his home on the Pine Creek First Nation with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife Maggie McKay (Richard) son Charles; grandson Leslie; mother Marie; father Joe; five brothers, Roger, John, Adolf, Joseph and Leonard; and one sister Edna Nepinak. He leaves to mourn six sons, Gordon (Vivian), George (Irene), Clifford (Valerie), Fred (Lucille), Ivan (Diane) and William (Maureen) six daughters, Georgina Nepinak James, Joanne McKay (Phillip), Margaret Thompson (Morris), Justina Keewatin (Ken), Gloria McKay (Glen) and Mary Head (Larry). Three sisters, Evelyn Lariviere (Wally), Margaret Nepinak (Joe) and Agnes Nepinak. One daughter-in-law Doreen McKay; as well as 54 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. George was born on November 9, 1924 and attended the Pine Creek Residential School until grade six. For most of his life he was a fisherman around Lake Winnipegosis. If you wanted advice on the best fishing spots all you had to do was ask him. He met and married Maggie Richard when he was eighteen, they raised thirteen children in Pine Creek First Nation. The family would like to thank everyone who helped to take care of dad, especially auntie Evelyn. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of George may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A traditional wake was held on Thursday, February 27 at the McKay residence starting at 2:00 p.m. Funeral service was held on Friday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m. from the Camperville our Lady of Seven Sorrows Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Jose Cabral officiating and interment in the Parish Cemetery. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service of dauphin have care of the arrangements.
