Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE BATKE (nee SKRYNYK) Elsie passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at Pine Falls Hospital. Elsie is survived by her husband of 32 years, Rubin; her niece Sharon and husband George Motoch of Belair and their children, Melanie and Mark; her brother Mike Skrynyk (Eva) of Winnipeg; stepdaughters, Grace, Stella, Carol, and their families; brother-in-law Len Batke (Kathy) of Carnduff, SK; sisters-in-law, Lillian Martin of Belair and Ethel Fuhr (Ernie) of Winnipeg; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Elsie was born in Winnipegs north end on July 16, 1929. She was the youngest of three children and was educated at Isaac Newton school. After graduation, she attended Success Commercial College with a challenge from her father to complete her secretarial training in one year instead of the usual two. Done. From a position within the financial world, Elsie moved to TCA (now known as Air Canada) to assume executive secretary responsibilities. Elsies input into Air Canadas curling sponsorship of the Silver Broom was invaluable - and an enjoyable highlight of her employment. Through the National Secretaries Association, Elsie actively participated in all the events leading to the selection of Miss Blue Bomber. Twenty-six years and three months later, Elsie and Rubin retired to beautiful Belair, MB. Her passion for community continued with their pioneer involvement in the Pine Grove Development, Pine Falls United Church, The Seniors Scene at Victoria Beach, canvassing for cancer ... and she will be remembered for her contagious zest for life. A celebration of Elsies life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 3 at the Pine Falls United Church, Pine Falls, MB with Bonita E. Garrett presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Pine Falls United Church, the Manitoba Cancer Society of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
