GEORGE WESTON KENDALL SR. 1939-2003 George Weston Kendall passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 23, 2003 in Sioux Lookout, at the age of 63 years. George was born in Sioux Lookout on April 27, 1939. George started as casual staff in 1961 as a Ranger III for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Sioux Lookout, ON. He later joined staff in 1963 as a Warehouseman in Sioux Lookout. From there he worked as a unit crew leader, Conservation officer and Senior Fire Technician. George retired October 20, 1993 after 32 years of service. George and Nancy lived on Lake Street and later moved to his parents home on 55 Ethel St. where he resided up until the time of his death. George will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy (Schopff), of 45 years; and their four children, George (Cathy), William (Janet), Steven, and Cindy (Rob). He will be greatly missed, especially by his five grandchildren, Adam, Meghan, Weston, Elli and Abby, who were his pride and joy. George also leaves to mourn two sisters, Marilyn (Harry) Lamontagne, Eleanor (Owen) Robertson; and two brothers, Paul Kendall, Gordon (Barbara) Kendall. George was predeceased by his parents, Richard Paul Kendall in 1975 and Alice May Kendall in 1987; grandchild Neale Kendall in 1993; and sister-in-law Carolina Kendall in 1992. George was a Master Mason raised in Sioux Lookout, Lodge 518, and a past master of that lodge. He is a life member and a Royal Arch Mason of Golden Star Chapter Dryden, a life member and a Knights Templar of Ledger Preceptory Fort Frances, a Noble in Khartum Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, and a member of the Sioux Lookout Shrine Club. George is also a member of the Past Masters Club of Khartum Temple and a member of the Cryptic Rite Fidelity Council. George was actively involved in the formation of the Sioux Lookout Area Fur Managers Council and was an avid trapper himself. He spent many winters trapping with his sons. George was also involved in putting on trapping courses and recruiting new trappers, including his grandson Adam. Georges passion of late was researching his family history which included the Kendall, Gordon and Schopff family trees. He also enjoyed this challenge, he became involved in local Genealogy Society and assisted others in finding their relatives and putting their missing links together. George loved to share his knowledge of Sioux Lookout history, his own and family experiences with friends, relatives and others. George will be sadly missed for his great story telling, especially his hunting, fishing and trapping adventures. He had a sense of humour and loved to entertain with his jokes. George had a zest for life and will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. Funeral service for George was held on Wednesday, February 26 at the Sioux Lookout Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with Mrs. Beth Hendry officiating, Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery. We will miss you George, it just wont be the same without you.
