CLARENCE CHAMBERLAIN The family of Clarence Leslie Chamberlain announces with deep sadness his passing at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Winkler, on Friday, February 28, 2003, at the age of 88, with his family at his side. Clarence was born in Morden, June 17, 1914, the son of George and Rose Chamberlain (nee Wickert). He was predeceased by his wife Anne (nee Kinnear) his parents; his brothers, Harold and George; his sister Evelyn (Sigurdson) and his daughter-in-law Joanne. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jean (Vick) his sons, Ron (Lorette) of Surrey, BC, Derrick (Catherine) of Port Moody, BC; and his daughter Dell Friesen (Henry) of Morden; his grandchildren, Sheili, Patrick, Cara, Kerri and Courtney; and great-grandchildren, Andrea and Jonathan; his sister Dorothy Harris of Winnipeg; his brother Howard of Regina; his stepdaughters, Catherine Evenson (Elmer) of Morden and Barbara Rothenberger (Donald) of Brandon; his stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Clarence grew up and attended school in Brandon and played hockey with the Brandon Native Sons (now the Brandon Wheat Kings) and the Prince Albert Mintos. He followed his father into the hydro industry, first as a lineman with the Manitoba Power Commission, now Manitoba Hydro. He assumed more responsibilities in communities such as Winnipeg Beach and Neepawa until his move to Morden in 1954, where he was Area Manager for the Morden and Portage regions when he retired in 1979. Throughout his career, Clarence was actively involved in community organizations including the Lions Club in Neepawa, the Chamber of Commerce in Neepawa and Morden, coaching the Morden Bombers and minor hockey. He served as a referee in several communities and was an avid golfer. Clarence was extremely proud of the good work done by the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, particularly the construction of the Music Hall at the International Peace Gardens and the ongoing work of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal. In recent years he collected and crushed thousands of aluminum cans to help fund the work of the Shriners Hospital. He was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Morden and Grand Master of the Masons of Manitoba. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Pauls United Church, Morden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, the Shriners Childrens Hospital, the Morden Area Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
