JOSEPH TRAKALO Peacefully, at home on March 3, 2003, Joe Trakalo passed away at the age of 80 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years Jean; his children, Ken (Inda) of Oakbank, Shirley of Winnipeg, Bernie (Jae) of Qualicum Beach, BC, Les (Pat) of Gimli, Bill of Victoria, BC, Lynn (Joe) of Oakbank; grandchildren, Lee (Trish), Colin, Rob, Jackie, Brent, Samantha, Ricky, Lindsay, Curtis and Katyrina; great-grand-children, Sarah, Matthew, and Braydon; brother Paul of Arborg; countless nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Joe was predeceased by his parents, John and Tekla; brothers, Pete and Mike; sister Olga and son-in-law Art Garner. Joe was born in Meleb, MB in 1923 and married Jean Popowich in 1948. They resided in the Meleb and Rembrandt areas before moving to Winnipeg in 1954. Joe worked for Swift Canadian for 16 years and then began his own business, Metro Pallet in 1969. Joe retired, sold his business in 1979 and moved to Oakbank, MB until his passing. Joe and Jean had the opportunity to enjoy part of their retirement in British Columbia, having spent four winters there. In his retirement Joe was very proud and honoured in his involvement with the M.P.C. Reunion Park in Meleb, MB. Joe was instrumental in the construction of the Pioneer Map situated in the park as well as dedicating much of his time in having a Military Cairn placed in the grounds of the park. Joes favourite pastime was buying and fixing Hyundai cars. He was affectionately known in Oakbank as Hyundai Joe. Joe enjoyed playing cards with George and Angie and Cec and Diane, as well as his weekly visits with his coffee pals at Garden City. Gigi will be greatly missed, especially by his immediate family during Sunday dinners at Baba and Gigis. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
