WALTER EDWARD TOWELLS Peacefully, on March 7, 2003, Walter passed away at the Riverview Health Centre with family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Janie; children, Darren (Krystyna), Dianne and Dale (Sherri) grandsons, Christophe and Pavel; sisters, Olga, Victoria, Beatrice (Alex) and Joyce (Hank) sister-in-law June; brothers, John and Julian; mother-in-law Anne and several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary; brother Alex; brother and sister in infancy; father-in-law Elmer and sister-in-law Milly. Walter was born on August 2, 1936 on a farm in Lac du Bonnet. He came to the city in 1956 and while working several jobs he studied to become a bookkeeper at Success Business College. Through a mutual friend at Alsip Brick and Tile he met his wife Janie and was married in November 1962. Until recently he was a part-time accountant at Unique Centre and Corral, where he loved spending time feeding the horses and dogs. From 1963 to 1995 he was employed at J.S. Quinn and later Nor-Quin Construction. Dad had a lot of interests he especially loved the outdoors, gardening and looking after his flowers. Thanks to Walter, many birds and squirrels have cozy places to live. He was a capable carpenter and could fix anything. Dad loved Southern Gospel Music and watching Star Trek. Walter was devoted to church work and held many positions of service, church treasurer, sunday school and boys club, usher and visitation ministry. The family would like to thank Dr. James Johnston, Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk and the staff of 3E at Riverview Health Centre for their care of Dad during his illness. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 would be appreciated. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 12 at Ness Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Ness Ave., with Pastor Bob Shepansky officiating. Walter will be laid to rest in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at a private family interment. A reception will follow the service at the church.
