LLOYD CLIFFORD FINNEN, C.A. 1924 - 2003 Peacefully, in the company of his family, Dad went to be with Mom on March 9, 2003, at St. Boniface Hospital. Lloyd was born prematurely in Gilbert Plains, MB on June 23, 1924, while visiting family there. He was raised in the Riverview area of Winnipeg and attended local schools. His university education was interrupted when he enlisted in the Navy. When Lloyd was discharged after serving in St. Hyacinth, QC and in Halifax, he arrived home with his wife and son. He then completed his education, graduated and began a long and rewarding career in chartered accountancy, founding L. C. Finnen & Co. and, when Robb graduated, carrying on business as Finnen Bettess & Finnen. Lloyd and Joey raised Robb and Lynn in Riverview and were very involved both in the church and the community. Lloyd enjoyed his years at the Fort Rouge Curling Club and served as president there in 1978 - 1979. He and his best friend Stan Newman went together to functions of the White Ensign Club until recently. Lloyd and family enjoyed the cottage at Falcon Lake for over 35 summers. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents, Walter (Cliff) and Clara; by his sister Merrill Brown; and by Joey (Joy) in March of 1999. He is survived by his brother Claire and his family, by son Robb (Sharon) of Winnipeg, and by his daughter Lynn (Lorne) of Burnaby. He also leaves four grandchildren, Ben and Tyler (Nadine) Bradley and Holly and Jim Finnen who will miss grandpa. A service of celebration will be held at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave., on Thursday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens will follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Lloyds memory would be appreciated by the family to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St. Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, or to Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 1J4. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Catherine Place, home care workers and the St. Boniface Hospital, especially staff on 4E, for their care and concern.
